Being A Responsible Corporate Manager

In   the month a product of a company gets recalled due to performance issues in one country – it gets approval in another country. This statement is by itself more than enough to start a series of questions in your mind; starting with - how could it be so careless, or worse?   The same product, as per news reports, mind you. The deeper you go into the case, the more the questions that arise. Despite being aware of complaints, the said company went ahead with imports of that product. It gets even more murkier as you go into the case further. Be that as it may; my article is not about that case; so let me just be circumspect. Suffice it to state that the above is basis a real story, mint-fresh and of latest vintage. A current news – though you would not know it, as only one Newspaper has complete damning coverage in the 5 that I checked. 1 of these 5 was silent on this; 3 had incomplete coverage. A side-thought here – that last bit seems just bit too coincidental, too conv

Blockchain : From Concept to Execution, A Book Review - Cum - Analysis

Blockchain – the mysterious buzzword of the current times… let us now go just a bit deeper into this term, and place it in the proper perspective with respect to the modern Business World we all know so well. In the public understanding, this is a distributed ledger, in which an entry once made – cannot be altered. This simplistic definition is at the real core of the misunderstanding / debate around blockchain; it just doesn’t do justice to the term, creating a debate, at times even a passioned debate. This is why I went into reading about it – and picked up “ Blockchain: From Concept To Execution ” WHAT   IS BLOCKCHAIN In order that we understand & appreciate Blockchain and its implications, we need to first understand its salient features, or what makes Blockchain so different, and so special: 1.      It is simply a type of database which is running a distributed ledger system around the whole cloud of internet. 2.      It could be public, private; Permissione

Book Review - Tied To Deceit

Crime Thrillers are perhaps the single most common genre in writing – thus, impressing the readers in this genre is perhaps the most difficult of all. And, in addition to the above, if you have an author who has not only managed to impress the reader, but also carve a niche for herself, then the pull of both this, the current book, as well as the forthcoming titles, becomes even more alluring. And this is exactly what the author of the current book, Ms Neena Brar, has managed to achieve in the pages of this book from her pen – Tied To Deceit… THE BOOK This is a murder mystery, with a twist; or – to be more accurate – with several twists, to be very precise. A lady receptionist gets killed at her home – a simple, seemingly, whodunit, isn’t it? Well, not quite. Apparently, this lady receptionist has an affair with the Lead Doctor. I know – still simple. And, the wife catches the good healer, our Doctor. Yup, still straightforward. Except for one detail – she doesn’t just

Book Review : Work, Workers and Workplaces

The changing Indian Landscape is brought to the fore by the current book under review; a field of study – nay, an esoteric field of study that was hitherto, in my knowledge scope and awareness at least, a subject not paid any attention to in Indian Corporates. Thus, it was a complete surprise for me, and no less than an education, to read the ideas, cases and examples contained in this short book, simply titled : Work, Workers and Workplaces , by Parthajeet Sarma Given that this is a new field to me – though I have heard of it quite often, the impulse for me is to protest and reject the ideas it contains. Having said that, my experience simultaneously tells me that there is a strong case for the ideas this book contains, and that the average Indian Worker and Workplace can use more than a little improvement in many areas. Doing so will admittedly have a strong positive impact on productivity and morale both. THE BOOK So what is the book about? Here, I would rather yo
