REALISM : THE WAY OUT OF NEGATIVITY

REALISM : THE WAY OUT OF NEGATIVITY   A lot h as been said about positivity in relation to negative situations one finds oneself in; this article attempts to examine that, basis personal experience, and challenge long-held beliefs, basis learnings through deep personal association with pain stretching over a long time. It is said being positive, dreaming, looking sunny etc are the anecdote, that one should try to be upbeat and gung-ho as far as is possible for one to be.   Been there, done that. Dreams and positive thoughts don't help at all. They didn’t for me, at any rate. What helps, then? Realistic assessment, plus n minus awareness, recognition of your flaws, recognition of your strong points, and a plan out of it. In the plan dreams aren't good: small steps, tackle the immediate problems first, and move ahead Also, capacity and capability building, up skilling and constant effort. Accept flaws, yet realise you are not responsible for the mess.   ACCEPTAN...

The Sources Of Ethical Issues in the Corporate World

I have been consistently highlighting the ethical aspects of a professional workplace in my writing. In the course of writing these articles, I came to realize that this is not a topic too many people like to discuss openly; this is a raw nerve for many people, due to various reasons. These reasons may be due to fear or worry of impact in their professional careers, but it is real. I too have felt this raw fear whenever I write on this topic – Ethics. Rare is the person who joins with my thoughts on this matter; I would certainly like to connect on a social plane with other such like-minded people. My articles have introduced me to many such people, happily – which has helped me to gain a far more positive outlook towards Corporate India. I am pleased to note that there are many people out there who have the same outlook, and are silent for various reasons. I   have had many conversations on this or related topics on various social media; most I cannot place on my blog...

Building A Positive Workplace - 3 : Pointers and Core Aspects

In the previous 2 segments of this conversation, we went deep into the concept and role of relationships & trust in the context of a modern workplace, and understand the concept of what it entails. We also examined the nature of workplace relationships in the light of the modern organization, and the modern survival of the fittest syndrome, before moving on to tactical aspects of this question – that is implementing them in the real world, wherein I confronted the panel with the simple questions – can it be really, truly achieved in the modern world? In this   concluding segment, we look at these aspects : survival, vertical relationships, inter-function / department relationships,   external stakeholders, and going onto the most basic of all : ethics, values of an organization, and the need for them. My personal thanks to both the panelists, for their candid responses, which also served to kindle hope and build confidence in the reader as well as myself wit...

Building A Positive Workplace - Conversations Part 2

In the previous segment of this conversation, we took a look at the aspects of a   positive healthy workplace relationship; in this segment, I asked the Senior Mentor / Manager Mr Milind Kher and the Middle Manager RIddhima Dua some questions that put them in a place wherein they had to figure out whether we can implement this in the real workplace, and strategise how this can be achieved. The answers were revealing – Mr Kher with his experience and knowledge producing pearls of Wisdom, and Mrs Dua going into the tactical details – making for a near perfect conversation… Q11: How can you build trust within teams? RD : Trust comes with acceptance . Accepting the individual the way they are, heightening awareness to acceptance and behavior, and communicating it with higher frequency. Our inner energy plays a vital role here. Let us give you an example : A team of 4 working together, all of them has an idea to reach a potential goal of the company; Now they start co...
