The positivity of hate...

http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/AndhraPradesh/Akbaruddin-Owaisi-charged-with-promoting-enmity/Article1-984597.aspx

  1. The hate speech by a member of a non-hindu community that has caught the media attention now is, in my opinion a back cloud with a silver lining...
  2. Why? Because all those gentlemen who are raging against hindus are only serving to drive more and more hindus into the arms of hardliners; all that is being achieved is the firming up of Hindu opinion. That is admittedly worrying, since the hindu was never a fundamentalist; he/she was always pacifist. It is sad to see the firming up of opinion in a very secular religion; but it is happening, and is a decided cause of worry. I am a moderate; and am feeling extremely worried by this disturbing trend in our religion. The greater worry is that this is happening apparently as a response to - shall we say - external stimuli. Why cannot the Government manifest itself strongly against pro-religion fundamentalists- of any religion? It is the inaction by the Government that is actually exacerbating the people, and driving them into the hardliners. This is a decided reason to worry; for let me be extremely frank: I, too, in my weaker moments, have felt thankful to the Pro-Hindu hardliners; there has been in the back of my mind a definite feeling of comfort and safety.
  3. This safety is not supposed to be provided by the extra-governmental forces; it is to be provided by the Government! Inaction in every sphere is the hallmark of politics today. These politicians should realise that their inaction is only going to exacerbate the problem and further, drive their vote bank into the arms of the BJP-RSS combine! They are quite literally shooting themselves in the foot; Take me, for example. I was once pro-congress; now am apolitical and support Aam Aadmi Party; how long do you think before even a confirmed pacifist and moderate like me also becomes Pro-BJP? It is simplly speaking stupid electoral strategy! Wake up, man! (I have nothing against the BJP; I am not claiming BJP to be communal. It has in fact proven itself to be an able ruler. The point above is merely underlining the impact on the congress vote-bank)
  4. It is also highlighting another aspect of governmental apathy; yet again - it is the court acting on a public appeal that has come to our rescue.
  5. It has also provided another piece of evidence that in reality only the courts are running India; governments are doing practically nothing.
  6. If today I feel confident in my nation and its ability to prosper, it is only because of the large presence of the Armed Forces, The Media and The Courts. A heartfelt thanks to all of you... (and of course, the indomitable Indian spirit! Nothing can keep us down... people have tried and failed. We always bounce back)
  7. This feeling of safety is not about the hate speech- it is about overall life; for ex, my brother-in-law highlighted his Vehicle transfer case in newpapers - and got his registration within days! Without these above 3, things would have been far more difficult... thanks for being there! Any number of crimes and scams would have gone undetected...

Thank you The Armed Forces, The Courts of India... and of course, despite its many shortcomings, The Media...

PK, The Movie : One Of The Best...

\ PK : A Movie Ahead Of Its Time; A Movie That Is A Very Vital And Current Need! I dont normally review movies; my blog does not lend itself to such an activity, given its positioning as one that asks some tough questions to Indians. I am making an exception for this movie, not because it is a landmark movie {which it is}, but because this movie is also one that asks some pretty blunt, and to some people, offensive questions.  It is rather sad and humbling to see the vigorous protests to this movie, and some cases of active on-street protests and interference in some places. Sad, because there is almost nothing in the content that should excite such actions; and humbling because it is a painful reminder that we as a nation have still a ways to go in our quest for true development! Before I move onto the movie, I have just one question : did the protesters also protest to Haider? If no, you did not find the negative portrayal of The Indian Army objecti

Tarkeshwar Mahadev : Pune Hidden Gems

What do you do when you have something good, something that is praiseworthy, and something that can be an attraction? Answer, if you are in Pune – keep silent about it, tell no one. This is seemingly exaggerated – perhaps it is exaggerated; but I am flabbergasted by a series of unbelievable locations that I have visited in Pune City – within main Pune City, mind you . These are not well known – at least not one single localite informed me, even on asking . At least those I talked. If I didn’t talk to the right people, perhaps I am in the wrong. But – if you expand your vision to TV, Cinema, Popular opinion, hotels – the situation above gets proof. I earlier visited Pune on a family holiday, stayed in a good Hotel. Not one Hotel informed me of these; not one person – Taxi, Tour Guide – even mentioned these . Thus, it seems to me that Puneites don’t realise how lovely a city they have, how mesmerizing are its many, many tourist-worthy places, how rich and unspoiled,

Book Review : Chhatrapati Shivaji

Chhattrapati Shivaji stands as one of the most celebrated medieval heroes in Modern India; it is a name that touches a chord in almost every Indian, and is a powerful force to reckon with even today, three centuries after his death. He is present everywhere you can see; he is one of the few to withstand the onslaught of naming everything in sight after the Nehru family. A Chhatrapati square her, a Shivaji Terminus there – many cities have honoured themselves with some landmark, statue, street or square in his name. Such is his current followership, and so powerful is his presence. This makes reviewing any book related on this personality a big responsibility, a tough task  – and not one to be taken with insincerity, or with bias,  or attitude. I had always thought of The Chhatrapati as a tall personality, a commanding and great Indian; but had never given a thought to the pull, the deep connect and the powerful influence this genius had on me; as I read the current book, as I t
